  3. Wesley's List Testing

Considered the Chapter Ancient; but I think if I am taking him I am likely going to want to trade the Venerables for maybe Devastators to make more use out of the banner and also Azrael's protection bubble. So alternative list for Dark Angels would be: Battalion Detachment: HQ- Azrael (Dark Angels chapter master) *180pts ***Warlord Trait: Brilliant Strategist HQ- Librarian w/jump pack & force sword & bolt pistol (Powers: Aversion & Righteous Repugnance) **120pts HQ- Lieutenant w/jump pack & power sword (Relic: Heavenfall Blade) & storm bolter *84pts 3x Troop- Scout Squad (5) w/boltguns & sergeant (chainsword & boltgun) *55pts x3 Troop- Scout Squad (5) w/boltguns & one missile launcher & sergeant (chainsword & boltgun) *80pts Elite- Chapter Ancient w/ storm bolter *87pts Flyer- Dark Talon *160pts Outrider Detachment: HQ- Master w/jump pack & power sword (Relic: heavenfall blade) & storm bolter *99pts Fast Attack- Inceptor Squad (5) w/plasma exterminators *295pts 2x Fast Attack- Scout Bike Squad (3) *75pts x2 Spearhead Detachment: HQ- Lieutenant w/jump pack & chainsword & storm bolter *80pts Heavy Support- Hellblaster Squad (10) w/plasma incinerator (rapid fire gun) & sergeant (same gun plus plasma pistol) *337pts 2x Heavy Support- Devastators (5) w/one heavy bolter & 2 lascannons & sergeant (chainsword & storm bolter) *127pts x2 Do you think the above is an approvement in terms of a Dark Angels list or do you think the original one above is better? Please let me know; thanks!
  4. Wesley's List Testing

Thanks for fhe feedback. Have to do some playtesting. But I see where u are coming from on the Raven Guard list potentially havung an edge over the Dark Angels against a wider field of lists. -Wes
  5. Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any Space Marine Scout Bikes they are willing to sell? Also any Storm Bolters. Please let me know; thanks! -Wes
  6. Wesley's List Testing

Hey, I have been trying to come up with a decent list or two to build up for 40K for awhile now. After playing around with different lists across a few armies (mostly marine focused) I came up with the below two lists and was hoping for some feedback before I take the plunge and purchase the rest of the models I need to complete the lists. So please let me know what you think. As a note I am aiming for I will say semi-competitive but still being an army I am going to have the motivation to assemble and paint so has to be something I also find fun to play and will look look good on the table. As a side goal being able to beat or at least have a close game vs Craftworld Eldar would be sweet. List #1: Raven Guard 2000pts: 1st Battalion Detachment: HQ- Kayvaan Shrike (Raven Guard chapter master) *150pts HQ- Lieutenant w/jump pack & chainsword & storm bolter *80pts Troop- Scout Squad (5) w/boltguns & one heavy bolter & sergeant (chainsword & storm bolter) *67pts 2x Troop- Scout Squad (5) w/boltguns & sergeant (chainsword & storm bolter) *57pts x2 3x Elite- Venerable Dreadnought w/missile launcher & twin lascannon *165pts x3 Heavy Support- Hellblaster Squad (10) w/plasma incinerator (rapid fire gun) *330pts 2nd Battalion Detachment: HQ- Captain w/jump pack & power fist & combi-melta *124pts ***Warlord Trait: Storm of Fire HQ- Lieutenant w/jump pack & chainsword (Relic: Teeth of Terra) & storm bolter *80pts Troop- Scout Squad (5) w/boltguns & one heavy bolter & sergeant (chainsword & storm bolter) *67pts 2x Troop- Scout Squad (5) w/boltguns & sergeant (chainsword & storm bolter) *57pts x2 Elite- Aggressors (5) w/auto botlstorm gauntlets & fragstorm grenade launchers *222pts 2x Fast Attack- Scout Bike Squad (3) w/ sergeant (storm bolter) *77pts x2 The overall plan with this list it to use the Raven Guard stratagem Strike From The Shadows to special deploy the Hellblasters and the Aggressors. This list plays best if it can secure first turn because once you know you are going first you can deploy the Hellblasters and the Aggressors so that they both are in optimum range of the best targets they can get at. And with 9 command points to start I think that spending 2 to potentially get a great first turn is worth it. The Hellblasters really do some damage especially if within rapid fire range and either Shrike or Captain can come down to give them re-rolls so they can overcharge. The Aggressors particularly get a benefit as the special deployment is before the first turn so if they can start in range they don't have to move and so can fire twice on both your turn and also during your opponents if they charge them; so a big ol'bucket of shoots; particularly good to clear hordes. Still have not worked out who goes with Aggressors and who goes with Hellblasters; as Shrike gives re-roll 1s & 2s; while the Captain gives re-roll 1s and also 6s to wound add -1 AP to attack due to warlord trait. As Shrike with drop in range of one and Captain with the other; also a Lieutenant drops with each. If first turn is not secured then can deploy both of the units further back to have the best counter attack; Aggressors lose more of their effectiveness find when going second; but the Hellblasters I find always preform top notch. In certain match ups it may not be worth spending the command point to special deploy the Hellblasters but that will take some trial and error to work out when and when not; but the Aggressors I think it is always worth it due to shorter range and the boost to amount of shoots if they don't have to move. Then have a bundle of scouts to bubble out and control board space and deal some small arms fire and claim objectives. While the Scout Bikes are also use to claim objective and also they push out alot of low end shooting for cheap to help with hordes. The Venerables are super reliable back line heavy weapon platforms with their base 2+ to hit and if Hellblasters are deploying back in you deployment can setup the Venerables so they are also in the range of the support characters that drop to help the Hellblasters; making the Venerable even more reliable. Also command points via stratagems you can deal mortal wounds with the Scout Heavy Bolters or the Scout Bikes; also can make deep striking too close to your powerful units dangerous for your opponent as can get some free shooting. List #2: Raven Guard 2000pts: Battalion Detachment: HQ- Azrael (Dark Angels chapter master) *180pts ***Warlord Trait: Brilliant Strategist HQ- Librarian w/jump pack & force sword & bolt pistol (Powers: Aversion & Righteous Repugnance) **120pts HQ- Lieutenant w/jump pack & power sword (Relic: Heavenfall Blade) & storm bolter *84pts 4x Troop- Scout Squad (5) w/boltguns & sergeant (chainsword & boltgun) *55pts x4 2x Elite- Venerable Dreadnought w/missile launcher & twin lascannon *165pts x2 Heavy Support- Hellblaster Squad (10) w/plasma incinerator (rapid fire gun) & sergeant (same gun plus plasma pistol) *337pts Flyer- Dark Talon *160pts Outrider Detachment: HQ- Master w/jump pack & power fist & combi-melta *124pts Fast Attack- Inceptor Squad (5) w/plasma exterminators *295pts 2x Fast Attack- Scout Bike Squad (3) *75pts x2 This list tries to win on the back of the Dark Angels stratagem Weapons From The Dark Age; which gives +1 damage to plasma weapons for 1 command point; so goal is to use this stratagem every turn that it is needed. List starts with 8 command points; and warlord trait lets me gain 1 command point on a roll of 5+ every time I use a stratagem. Also like the Dark Angels stratagems as one for 2 command points that lets a unit pull out of command and still shoot which will come in handy if the opponent try to engage to tie up your sick plasma shooting. Also have access to the stratagems explained above that potential allow your Scout Bikes to deal mortal wounds or get a unit to shoot if an enemy deep strikes too close. So deployment is pretty much Azrael surrounded by Hellblasters; but leaving room for Lieutenant & Librarian to drop next to Azrael. Being within 6 inches of Azrael gives all Dark Angels infantry a 4+ invulnerable save; making you Hellblasters that much harder to kill; also giving your other support characters a valuable save for once your bunker gets attacked. The Hellblasters are intended to rip apart all good targets as you can use the stratagem and also overcharge to get each shot upto 3 damage. Depending on the match up and objective in the game the Hellblasters will likely be moving up the board at least some during the game; as become more deadly when in rapid fire range. The Venerables will likely pretty much stay still as long as targets as the Dark Angels army wide rule to re-roll 1st to hit when not moving lets then shoot on 2+ and re-rolling 1s; so they will supply reliable back line fire power. The Scouts are used to bubble out and control board space and some small arms fire. The Scout Bikes are to claim objectives and also supplies alot of small arms fire for cheap. The Dark Talon with its two hurricane bolters also supplies alot of small arms fire. The Dark Talon can also turn its Rift Cannon on higher threat with its d3 shoots at strength 10 with AP -3 and 3 damage a hit; then if does damage to a unit roll a dice at to begin with on a 3+ (degrades as takes damage) the unit takes d3 mortal wounds. Also the Dark Talon once per game drops statis bombs which targets a unit it flew over then for each model in unit (max of 10) roll a dice and on a 4+ unit suffers a mortal wound. Lastly and my favorite part of the list along side the Hellblasters; the Inceptors and their supporting Master drop next to the biggest scariest threat or threats and blast away with their plasma. Each of the 5 models gets 2d3 plasma shots so on average the unit pushes out 20 plasma shots each dealing upto 3 damage as likely overcharging and also use the Weapons From The Dark Age stratagem on them instead of the Hellblasters on the turn they drop. The Inceptors are best used as a hard hitting unit that comes down and hits hard then likely will die; though at 10 total wounds with toughness 5 and a 3+ save or 2+ in cover it will take at least a bit of effort fro your opponent to take them off the board. The Master is their to let Inceptors re-roll the 1s to hit and also he has a combi-melta for some decent shooting damage and also can attempt a long charge to finish something off or hold something up. By that same logic you can also attempt to use the Inceptors to then charge and tie something up in combat particularly a vehicle as it is unlikely to be able to kill them if you don't think they will survive and then if you are lucky and they survive you can just pull out since they fly and still shoot again. Have not really tried the Dark Angels Librarian powers yet so what ones to choose will likely take some practice; though I think Aversion will always be good as the ability to select an enemy unit within 24" and give them -1 to hit is pretty good. Currenly for second power trying to decide between Mind Wipe which gives you a chance (leadership roll off) to reduce a models leadership & bs & ws by 1 for the rest of the battle; or Righteous Repugnance which gives a Dark Angels unit re-roll all failed to hit rolls and wound rolls made for the unit's melee weapons for the turn; or lastly Trephination which is pretty much just a similar spell to Smite but less reliable. So I know I was a bit long winded, but for anyone who made it through all of the above or even jut skimmed it, thank you and please let me know what you think. Thanks! -Wes
  7. More Morty

Looks pretty sweet. The effect on the wings definitely catches the eye. -Wes
  8. Hey, Was just wondering what you all used to make the Talon Master in terms of kits? Assume its not just the base Land Speeder kit. As I have been meaning to get one made up but keep putting it off. Also thanks for sharing the pics of your work; everything looks so sweet. Giving me some motivation to get going on the hobbying I have been putting off; in order to get my army up and going. -Wes
  9. Dropping Dice at Hellmouth

Love the write up; good read. Sounds like both you and your opponents had a blast which should always be the point. Thanks for the glimpse into what sounded like a sweet time. -Wes
